HMSI: Year 3 Begins
It’d been a while since I’d played Harvest Moon Sunshine Islands. With Pokemon HG being so cool and intense with countless post-game things to do, I had plenty on my plate. But sometimes you just need a break from all those pocket monsters and for me, going back to old-timey FARMING is the ideal choice!
When I started up my game, it was the middle of Spring, year 3. I’d already started growing the spring crops, turnips, cucumbers, potatoes and strawberries. Some of my cucumber crops had died but ehh… I didn’t replace them.
My main goal was to earn enough money in Spring to buy a new Barn for my Ranch. I’ll get back to that later.
In HMSI, I designated my birthday as Spring 21. So when I started playing again, it was very close to my birthday! Oh boy! I wondered who I’d get presents from. The results were not that surprising. Here’s what I got:
- From Denny, my future husband: Carpaccio (dish made with fish)
- From Pierre, the [closeted gay] chef: Paella (dish made with rice)
- From Elliot, the nerd: Stir-Fried Veggies
- From Will, the rich pretty-boy: Pinkcat Flower
- From the Harvest Goddess: Rank A Strawberry!
I was very shocked when the Harvest Goddess gave me a birthday present. I know she likes me (especially in the spring cuz I give her my strawberries) but I didn’t think you could even get presents from girls. I felt bad that she gave me the super fresh and nice strawberry, and then I gave her one of my lame non-fresh Rank B strawberries in my daily ‘throw something into the pond’ ritual.
I didn’t get a present from Shea, which was kinda sad. I thought I had enough hearts with him, but I guess not 7000 points. The worst was when I spoke to Vaughn. He was very rude, saying, “Don’t talk to me unless you got something to say.” Obviously he didn’t know it was my birthday. Denny, who was sitting at the other side of the Diner, must have been holding back his rage, cuz he didn’t say anything. :P I ended up giving VAUGHN a present on my own damn birthday. Ahh well.
Later in the month, I finally reached a landmark: Shipping 100 Mushrooms! Taro delivered a Sunstone to me and I knew it was finally time to get my newest pet - a Pink Piglet named Spoink! (Sorry I stole your pig’s name, Vella.) I really like the pig, it’s super cute and I like to chase him around the island! :D
On that same island, I saw Shea’s Green Heart Event, called Important People. It was cute! But Wada kinda creeps me out. If I had him for a father-in-law, I’d be MEGA creeped out. So sorry Shea, I’ll keep stringing you along, but there’s NO WAY I’m marrying you! lol :P
Let’s see, what else… after diligently harvesting crops, I had roughly $42k saved up. So I went to Gannon to request a building or upgrade. First I wanted to upgrade my fridge cuz it seemed like a fairly cheap and easy one to do. I had already upgraded the material to stone so the items stay fresh longer, but at the time I only had 3 pages to fill with food items. So I went to the Fridge Upgrade requests and accidentally clicked for Gannon to use his own materials… I ended up paying $35k instead of only $2k if I had used my own materials!!!! AHHHH!!! And I hadn’t saved in a while so I didn’t plan on soft-resetting. I just was screwed.
Then, as you can imagine, I started frantically trying to raise money again. I really wanted to get that barn!
At the end of the month, there was a Horse Festival and the Spring Crop Festival. My horse, Mr. Ed, had an all-time record for best race - a lightning fast 11.0 seconds! He earned the title of Copper Medal Horse. Hooray! I got a Green Wonderful tho. Lame. It was no surprise when I won the Spring Crop Festival, with my Rank A Cucumber entry. I won a Yellow Wonderful for that. Haven’t decided what I want to do with it yet! Most of my tools are at full capacity already. Guess I need to buy new tools!
Finally, on the final day of Spring, with the help of some Harvest Sprites lowering Gannon’s material requirements, I placed the building request for my BARN! YAY! So when I play Summer 1, the barn will be there, and I will finally be able to get some sheep and cows, and eventually get my PET KITTY! :D
That’s all I have to report for now. Sorry it was so long! A lotta stuff happens in Harvest Moon, even in just one month! lol
