Finally Finales!
This past week there were FINALES GALORE on TV. As a TV-junkie myself, I watched many of them. Here’s my comments on each Finale I watched, and what I thought of them based on my arbitrary 5-Star Scale:
Celebrity Apprentice: I watched this show both this season and last year. While last year’s finale was potent with hateful slurs and back-stabbing, this season had a much more light-hearted feel. Since one of the finalists Bret Michaels had recently survived a major health scare, it seemed Donald Trump was taking a different approach to this finale. There was less “I hate you and I hope you lose” animosity, and more “We’re both winners for our charities” which is really what the show is about. And I was happy that Bret was chosen over Holly, cuz man she was a BITCH! My Rating: THREE STARS!
Lost: This was a SERIES finale. As anyone who’s watched Lost for the past 6 or whatever seasons knows, you can’t expect the J.J. Abrams team to answer ALL the open questions in the show. But I had at least hoped SOME of my questions would be answered. Like, where the fuck did those numbers (4,8,15,16,23,42) really come from? Or whatever happened to Walt and his weird psychic abilities? Or why was Libby in the same mental hospital as Hurley? The only thing that was answered was that they were all actually dead… or something. I literally held my forehead in my hands when I realized what a cop-out cliche the ending had become. It was like the Lost creators just GAVE UP and left us with a little ‘fuck you’ as the cast sunk into white oblivion. My Rating: NEGATIVE STARS
DWTS: This year’s Dancing With the Stars was FULL of talent that I really enjoyed watching. I wish I could see this year’s winner Nicole Scherzinger face off against Mya from last year’s competition! That would be an excellent match up. I hope they do a ‘Best Of’ season and invite all the finalists from past seasons to participate. That would be cool. The only thing I didn’t like about the DWTS finale this year was that they scored Nicole a 30 even before Evan Lysacek did his dance. So I kinda felt bad for him, he knew he was gonna lose even before he had his swan song. That was sad. My Rating: THREE STARS!
24: After eight years of watching Jack Bauer save America, it’s going to be hard to say goodbye. While some of the later seasons were NOT as good as viewers had hoped, this final season was much more up to par with my expectations for the action-packed series. Every loose end was tied up in some way, and the ending set everything up nicely for when 24 transitions to the silver screen. I just wonder what I’m going to watch on Monday nights from now on! We’ll miss you, Jack. And Chloe. :P My Rating: FIVE STARS - BAM!!!!
V: I’ve never seen or heard anything about the original series so I can’t compare it to that. But what I’ve watched this season in this remake of the Visitors has been pretty intense! Crazed reptile aliens invading our planet for a reason yet to be disclosed?? I especially enjoy ‘Juliette’ from Lost in this show, being a badass Single Mom/FBI Agent who’s son is dating the daughter of Anna, who is the leader of the V’s. And this Anna lady is SUPER CREEPY and pulls off the alien role extremely well. I look forward to next season! My Rating: THREE STARS
Modern Family: Quite possibly the funniest family-related show EVER, Modern Family has quickly become one of the most popular comedies on TV. The first season was amazingly hilarious, while at the same time hitting real issues that many families deal with on a daily basis. While the finale might not have been the BEST episode of the season, it was still pretty funny - after all, it involved a family mud fight. And who doesn’t like that? I can’t wait for next season! My Rating: THREE STARS
Community: Many people didn’t watch this show, but I think after their spoof on Modern Warfare by having an entire episode (not the finale) about a paintball shoot-out, Community has finally gotten the recognition they deserve. The finale was about how the students from the Spanish Study Group were struggling to find a class they could all take together to keep their study group intact. When one girl revealed that she was transferring, everything seemed like it was going to unravel… until an UNEXPECTED KISS changed it all! My Rating: FOUR STARS!
Parks and Recreation: Another laugh-out-loud hysterical season from Parks and Rec! This season ended with TURMOIL in the Parks Department, with Leslie Knope’s boss Ron Swanson fighting to keep Leslie’s job from being cut out of the budget. Meanwhile, the mean government employee (who’s name I forget lol) decides to be nice and help her put on a kids concert in one of the parks! So even though the government is ‘shut down’ in Pawnee County, I can’t wait to see what antics happen in the next season! My Rating: FOUR STARS!
The Office: I’m sad to say it, but I really think that The Office has gone downhill ever since Jim and Pam got married. Pam is just a bitchy mom now, Jim is as pompous as ever, and since Steve Carell announced he doesn’t plan on staying on the show past 2011, it just seems like this show has run out of steam. I mean, they don’t even sell paper anymore, the company isn’t Dunder Mifflin… the show just doesn’t make as much sense now. The only thing keeping me watching is the awkward ballet of Andy and Erin trying to start a relationship. And they didn’t even touch on that topic in the Finale, which was just about some stupid leak to the press about how Sabre printers might catch on fire. Its like the show went from office hijinx to office humdrum. Blah. My Rating: TWO STARS
Flash Forward: You can look at this show’s series finale in two ways - either it was really awesome, or really awful. Clearly the finale was made before the network decided not to sign the show for a second season. The Flash Forward series finale actually did tie up a lot of loose ends, but the last five minutes held so many cliffhangers that it’s obvious that the show creators had intended to receive a green light for a second season. So that’s kinda sad. But it did make for quite the climactic ending! Too bad it also made us wonder what the heck is going to happen in 2015… I also wonder if it’s possible for the show to be picked up again a few years from now? I actually liked this show and I’m sad it won’t be returning next season. My Rating: FOUR STARS!
To sum it all up… the comedies were all excellent (minus the Office) and the series finales were mostly good, with the exception of Lost. I’ll never be satisfied watching an old episode of Lost EVER AGAIN! Yeah I’m way pissed about that. And so ends my rant about TV Show Finales! :P
