According to World Health Organization statistics, the United States ranks number one in health-care spending, [yet] it ranks number twenty-four in health life expectancy. In comparison, Japan is number one is health life expectancy, yet the country uses less than half the amount of money spent by the United States. Something is wrong with this picture. The striking disproportion of cost versus effectiveness in the United States is startling.
