Making Friends With The Pokewalker

GamerNode took the Pokewalker to PAX East last weekend and showed us how in 15 minutes you can connect with a ton of people.  I wish there was something like this for The World Ends With You… that would be something I used constantly.

What I love the most about this video is the fact that all the new people this guy met were Adult Pokemon players.  At least that’s what they looked like…

Capturing Zapdos

Lately I have been playing Pokémon FireRed like mad!  I am trying to catch as many Pokémon in this game as possible before Pokémon HeartGold is released.  This way, I’ll have plenty of Pokémon to transfer over to my new game via Pal Park!  Plus, FireRed takes place in the region of Kanto, which is a region that is also found in HeartGold.  Always helps have the area and maps fresh in my mind!  :)

My friend “Vella” (hehehe) recently posted a pic of her Pokémon game that she took with her iPhone, and it looked amazing!  So I wanted to see if my DSi could take an equally good photo of my game (played on the DS Lite - sadly the DSi does not take screenshots).

FireRed Title Screen

OK, it’s obvious that the picture quality is not as good as the iPhone’s.  That’s all right, because at least the DSi takes fairly CLEAR photos of it’s DS Lite counterpart.  I’m happy about that, because when I try to take pics of my DS using a REGULAR digital camera (even in Macro mode, tho I do suck at using that mode) I always run into problems.

Anyway, back to FireRed.  I am currently leveling up to be ready to battle the Elite Four in the Pokémon League.  So I’ve been traveling around the area, trying to find elusive pokémon and find hot spots to train.  Recently I made my way to the Power Plant, which is only accessible via Surf.

Zapdos in the Power Plant

Zapdos was waiting there for me, by the back exit of the Power Plant!  EEEK!  Luckily I was prepared, I had 40 Great Balls and 40 Ultra Balls ready for this battle.  What I hadn’t anticipated was that Zapdos would be at level 50 when I encountered it.  My pokémon are still around level 40-45.  But I decided to go for it anyway!  I played it safe, using Pikachu at first, because not only did I not want to get killed by Zapdos, I also wanted to make sure I didn’t cause it to faint!  So Pikachu paralyzed Zapdos, but was soon put out of commission by Zapdos’ brutal Drill Peck attack.  Next, I threw Kadabra in the battle because he had the highest level out of all the pokémon in my party.  Kadabra carefully threw weak attacks to get Zapdos down to a ‘catchable’ level of HP.  Then it was time to start THROWIN’ SOME BALLS!  lol

Kadabra is in over his head!

I almost gave up.  I threw all 40 Great Balls and was down to just 15 Ultra Balls.  Zapdos was down to a sliver of energy, but so were my pokémon.  I was starting to think about soft-resetting and simply trying again.  But I figured I might as well throw the rest of my Ultra Balls first!  Then FINALLY, when I was down to Ultra Ball #12, Zapdos gave up.  He twitched in his pokéball a few times, and then decided maybe it wouldn’t be so bad in there.  HE WAS CAPTURED!!!

Zapdos in the Pokedex!

And it only took 69 pokéballs to get the job done.  *cries* lol Now my character is broke!  I better start hitting up the VS Seeker and grab my Amulet Coin…  :-P
